Title: Consider other platforms to host Dillo Author: rodarima Created: Tue, 26 Dec 2023 14:52:58 +0000 State: open As discussed with @clehner, we may want to switch to a different platform that can also provide a CI system avoiding Copilot and their closed source nature. - Codeberg: https://codeberg.org/ - GitLab instance: https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/List_of_Community-Hosted_GitLab_Instances - Sourcehut: https://sr.ht/ Non exaustive list of problems with GitHub: - Copilot - Replying by email doesn't work well: cannot close issues, markdown doesn't render and cannot attach images or files. - Missing dependencies across issues - Comments on issues are now JS-walled. - Open/closed buttons on milestones no longer work in Firefox. --%-- From: rakoo Date: Wed, 03 Jan 2024 13:03:06 +0000 Hey there, thanks for reviving it, dillo is awesome ! Sourcehut has been cited in other places as well and will absolutely be a good place. Its focus on small, light web pages aligns with the ideas of Dillo. I'd love to see it there ! --%-- From: rodarima Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2024 22:39:52 +0000 Nice list for GitLab: https://wiki.p2pfoundation.net/List_of_Community-Hosted_GitLab_Instances --%-- From: fgaz Date: Thu, 30 May 2024 08:30:34 +0000 > Its focus on small, light web pages aligns with the ideas of Dillo. Its focus on small, light web pages aligns with the ideas of Dillo. I'd love to see it there ! > And it actually works in Dillo, I might add Sourcehut has a nice web interface that works from Dillo, but [Drew has opposed the usage of CI infrastructure for closed-source operative systems](https://lists.sr.ht/~sircmpwn/sr.ht-discuss/%3CC3ZF0IF242P4.3JN5FF60I1J20@keymaker.local%3E), which is fine for other FOSS projects, but not for a browser that tries to be cross-platform. The web interface also has other (fixable) problems based on my own experience, regarding attachments and replies to patches, but those are not so much a blocker. Another problem with sourcehut is that self-hosting is not particularly easy, specially when multiple services are required. Right now in alpha the prices are okay, but I don't know how much they would increase them when the alpha ends. I'm also reviewing other distributed options like [Radicle](https://radicle.xyz/) and [Fossil](https://www.fossil-scm.org/home/doc/trunk/www/index.wiki), but they also come with their own sets of drawbacks and benefits. --%-- From: rodarima Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2024 22:54:49 +0000 Strange situation at Sourcehut, Simon Ser [no longer works there][1]: > You may have heard that we also had to part ways with one of our staff members > recently. I don't trust VC software, it tents to get real shitty over time.
